What is dental acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a technique where very fine needles are used to cure or alleviate diseases and their symptoms.

Dental Acupuncture is an extra tool the dentist may like to use to help patients.

Conditions treated by dental acupuncture include:

 -TMJ problems (jaw joint pain)

-Headaches/migraines

-Dental Anxiety

-Gag reflex and nausea

-Trismus (difficulty in opening the mouth)

-Atypical Facial Pain

What does Acupuncture feel like?

Patients report a warm, numb or relaxing sensation .This is called De-qui sensation. Patients also report feeling tiredness, light headed or euphoric, often with an instant improvement in symptoms.

How many treatments are required?

This depends on the condition being treated. An acute problem may only require one or two treatments. A chronic long standing condition will require more treatments with the average being about 6 treatments.

Acupuncture has been found to be effective in 70-80% of patients treated. An improvement in symptoms would be expected by the second or third treatment.
